PRESS RELEASE:
Marquetry painting or “The New Marquetry,” is a technique invented by Paris. It involves cutting pieces of hand painted paper and pasting the various grain patterns into abstract and organic shapes, much like how pieces of real wood veneer are assembled in traditional marquetry. With this technique, Paris proposes the concept of “Artwareness.” Combining abstraction and figuration, Paris’ marquetry paintings possess elements that are both conceptual and surrealist. His work has been recently featured in the Los Angeles Times, as well as magazines including W, Archetectural Digest, Home and Garden, and many more. Paris’ clients include Cartier, Valentino, and the Sultan of Brunei. He has just completed seventeen marquetry paintings for Thomas Keller’s newest resturant, Bouchon, in Beverly Hills. Paris’ work was recently the subject of a two man show, Ed Moses and Paulin Paris @ Cache in Venice. More examples of his work may be found on our website, www.frankpicturesgallery.com
Paris was born and raised in France. His last name comes from the Parisi tribe, the first inhabitants of Paris. He studied painting at the Beaux Arts in Paris, the Van der Kelen Institute of Faux Paintings in Brussels, and philosophy at Paris X University. Paris currently lives with his wife and two children in Venice, CA.
