Ever
since I can remember I have created my own world through
drawing and painting. As a child, it was a way I could
guide my reality and dreams and escape into the magic
of an unknown realm. Light is a driving force in my work
and I choose diverse objects to explore collisions and
transitions with color and value. Horses have always
been an important part of my life and I never tire in
trying to capture their essence, beauty, strength and
mystery. The technical qualities I seek in my paintings
are more classically inspired and I am primarily self
taught. In my earlier years I enrolled in art schools
where anything figurative was considered merely decorative.
I was fortunate to encounter mentors outside the conventional
school system to guide me in exploring the old masters
and their craft. Painting for me is a passion, a privilege
and a verb, and at best of times I revisit this enlightened
state from my childhood.
